Memory AT Devices, Tools, and Resources

Smart Devices – Voice activated devices that could answer questions or be set to notify you of tasks. Some individuals with memory problems will use a smart device to remind them to take their medication. A student may be able to use a smart device to answer questions they may have forgotten the answer to. The benefit of the smart device is the different things it can be used for when it comes to memory.
Smart devices on SAMR: Substitution, because it acts as the substitute to the natural brain memory for a given time but has no permanent functional change to the brain memory.
Calendars – A low tech memory base AT tool. Calendars can be used to write everything down that a person will need to do or have coming up for days, weeks, months. Calendars are one of the cheapest and easiest form of an AT tool used for a person with memory issues. The benefit of using a calendar is it helps people remember things that they have to do, they are easy to carry around, and if there is no writing disability, they can be used forever.

Pictures/Flash Cards – Help individuals with memory issues remember who someone may be, what needs to be done next, and can be used for class notes. The benefit would be it allows students with a memory disability to remember things they may forget.
