Pencil Grips – A low tech writing base AT. Pencil grips help students with handwriting issues. Depending on the issue, pencil grips can help students who struggle with holding a thinner object in their hand, or with slipping due to weak grip. The benefit of pencil grips is they make holding a writing utensil easier for the user.
Pencil grips on SAMR: Modification, because it can make the task of writing significantly easier for someone who struggles.
Speech-to-text – Computer based program that translates the words a user says to typed text. Speech-to-text can create word documents, emails, and other digital documents from narrated speech. The benefit of speech-to-text is it allows people to be able to complete writing task that are needed in everyday life.
Speech-to-text on SAMR: Redefinition, because it allows the student to complete a task that would otherwise be inconceivable.
Word Prediction – Computer based program that supports students in writing text. Word prediction programs predict what word an individual is typing, based on the letters, and provide suggestions. The benefit of word prediction is it helps the user not have to do much typing other than choosing the single word.
Word prediction on SAMR: Augmentation, because it is the substitute to typing a full word, providing functional improvement for those who struggle with typing.
