Text-to-speech – Printed or digital text spoken aloud to the reader, has a voice output. Text-to-speech influenced students in decoding, fluency, and comprehensive skills. The benefit of text-to-speech is that it allows students with a disability hindering them to read, the ability to learn.
Text-to-speech on SAMR: Redefinition, because it allows the student to be able to complete a task that would be otherwise inconceivable.
ReadingPen – Handheld optical character recognition system that reads printed text as the device scans it. The benefit of a ReadingPen is it is a small device that can be taken anywhere easily to use. It allows the person using it to be able to read printed text.
ReadingPen on SAMR: Augmentation, because it can act as a substitute to the text-to-speech device, allowing for functional improvement because of its small size.
Highlighter Strips – A low tech reading base AT. Strips of colored, transparent, film that students can use to guide their reading. These strips are good for people with dyslexia, as it makes the reading easier to follow. The benefit of highlighter strips is it’s a simple functional tool that is easy to use.
